Project Description

 camshaft

Technical Specification:
  Weight:1/5 kg
 Material: gray cast iron
Usage: Passenger Car

Short description of the camshaft

The camshaft is used to open and close the valves. It works in four-stroke piston engines. Due to the pressure, the requirements of mechanical properties must be observed in the production of this part.

dditional description of the camshaft

Camshaft or OHV, SOHC, or DOHC for short, is a component that opens inlet and outlet valves in four-stroke internal combustion engines. The inlet valves are the same as the fuel and air inlet valves into the cylinder. Exhaust valves are the same as exhaust valves from the cylinder. The name of the camshaft refers to the cams on this piece. This piece consists of a metal cylinder as the main axis on which there are axes in the form of ellipses or non-axial circles

Camshaft

In some two-stroke models, a valve stem is used for the outlet valve

The valve stem is rotated by a gear that is connected to the crankshaft by a chain or timing belt. In four-stroke engines, one valve rotates one turn for every two turns of the crankshaft

Factors that can damage the camshaft include a drop in oil pressure or a lack of oil in the engine

In the years before the 1980s, most engines usually had a camshaft inside the cylinder, and the force was transmitted to a finger or a pin and then to the valve through typet, and typet rod

Today, in most four-stroke engines, there is a camshaft on the cylinder head, which is called an overhead camshaft. Engines with one overhead valve are known by the term OHC and engines with two valves of this type are known by the term DOHC

Camshaft functions

1- Opening and closing the valves by rotating the valve stem and placing the cams under the types

2- There is an eccentric circle on the valve stem, which is moved from the tank to the carburetor by the gas station by placing the gas pump on the top and lowering it

3-There is a notch on the camshaft which uses Delco gear and oil pump

Types of camshafts

Overhead Valve (OHV)

OHV refers to the camshaft at the bottom of the engine that transmits power to the valves via long rods. Although this type of camshaft is almost obsolete, it has been used successfully for decades. Engines equipped with this type of camshaft are smaller and more durable than other types. It should be noted that in this type of engine, setting the exact timing of the valves at high speeds is a bit difficult. Another negative point is that in this type of engine, it is impossible to install more than two valves per cylinder
