Further description of Flywheel
Flywheel is an English word that is made up of the word (Fly –Wheel). But the word Flywheel is used interchangeably to describe one of the engine parts that is attached to the crankshaft. Of course, there is a Persian equivalent for this word, which are: flying wheel and anchor wheel, but the use of the word flywheel itself is more common
Flywheel structure
Anchor wheels or flywheels in different engines have different sizes. But in its construction materials, it usually uses cast iron. The construction of the flywheel is very simple and it is enough that it is reasonably smooth and polished and at the same time in good condition in terms of balance there shouldn’t be any curvature or distortion in it
The size of the flywheel depends on the number of engine cylinders and the size of the engine. Thus, the larger the number of cylinders (while the total displacement of the engine is equal to each other), the smaller the flywheel can be. (Total displacement volume for an engine is the displacement volume of a cylinder multiplied by the number of cylinders in that engine). This is because the distances between combustions are reduced. As a result, the forces acting on the crankshaft are applied more uniformly and the role of the flywheel as an energy saver is reduced.
This component is specifically designed to store rotational energy, or kinetic energy. In other words, flywheels are often used to provide continuous energy in systems that do not have a continuous energy source. A flywheel may also be used to supply alternating energy pulses at power levels that exceed the power source capabilities. This is done by accumulating energy in the anchor / flywheel over a period of time, at a rate that is compatible with the energy source. It then releases energy at a much higher rate in a relatively short period of time when needed. For example, it is used in electric hammers and riveting machines
